A single crime can change your life in an instant. For college-aged young adults, making poor decisions in their youth could lead to a lifetime behind bars. Take for example this situation involving a student.
A student at the University of Nebraska is facing a third charge after being accused of stealing a diamond ring from a woman in September. The 20-year-old man was charged with using a firearm to commit a felony. He previously had charges placed against him for first-degree forgery and felony robbery related to the same incident.
The man, who is from Kansas, has been placed in jail and is held on $100,000 bail. To be let out, he’ll need to post $10,000.
The charges stem from an incident in which the 20-year-old man allegedly arranged to meet the seller of a diamond ring. They agreed to meet and to the sale. When he arrived, he allegedly gave the woman counterfeit money for the jewelry. When she realized that the money wasn’t real, she said something to the 20-year-old man and requested the ring’s return. It was then that he supposedly took out a handgun and left with the ring.
The 20-year-old man is a business major at the University of Nebraska Kearney. As of now, he remains a student at the school. If he is convicted, he could be sent to prison for up to 74 years.
